MasterMac Honda’s rookie rider duo Rhys Irwin and Eugene McManus completed their first ZYN British Superbike Championship season over the weekend.
A challenging three days of racing, including plenty of rain, proved a huge test in the final round at Brands Hatch.
Rhys arguably delivered the team’s high point of the meeting when he showed excellent pace in qualifying to secure 14th on the grid.
He went on to place 17th in the opening of three races, but a series of incidents put paid to his and Eugene’s chances over the rest of the weekend.
Steve Hicken, team manager for MasterMac Honda, said:
“It’s been a hard season but Rhys and Eugene, along with Dan Brooks on the Superstock bike, have worked extremely hard and learned a huge amount in the process.
“As a team we have a strong track record of backing new riders at the highest level and the first season is always a steep learning curve. All of our riders are really talented and this year is part of their foundation for future success.
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone involved with the team. Our sponsors, our crew and our supporters make it all possible and we’re truly grateful for their contribution. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again in 2027.”
Sweeping changes to the rules for next year’s championship have recently been announced, with the intention of bringing even more competition and excitement to the world’s premier domestic superbike series.
The 2027 season gets underway at Oulton Park next May.
