MasterMac Honda rider Lee Jackson picked up his fourth successive podium finish in a rain-affected latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.
Jackson’s teammate Charlie Nesbitt grabbed the headlines in the first part of the weekend by setting the fastest time in the opening two practice sessions, before qualifying fifth for the opening race with Jackson immediately behind him on the grid in sixth.
After a fast start to Race One, Nesbitt was challenging for a podium spot before he slid out from fourth place. Jackson though progressed through the field to take an excellent third, following on from his triple podium in the previous round at Cadwell Park.
The remaining races took place in treacherous wet conditions on Sunday, with both seeing a series of incidents including another fall for Nesbitt. The youngster was unlucky to then miss out in the final race after progressing from 21st on the grid to eighth before retiring with a technical issue.
Jackson negotiated the tricky conditions well to come home seventh in each of Sunday’s races - and the overall effect of his efforts over the weekend was to move up to seventh in the championship standings, with Nesbitt now eleventh.
Steve Hicken, team manager for MasterMac Honda, said:
“It was another great result for Lee in the opening race and brilliant for the whole team to be back on the podium. We’re really pleased to see him climbing up the championship standings as well.
“Charlie was fast in practice and qualified well, but the fall in the opening race also cost him a good grid position for the second and nothing went right for him from there. It’s all part of learning as a young rider - he’s fit and well, and I’m sure he’ll bounce back next time.”
The team will make the short trip from its Mallory Park HQ to Donington Park for the next and penultimate round of the Bennetts BSB 2024 season, from 27-29 September.
