A unique weekend in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship calendar brought a heady mix of highs and lows for MasterMac Honda at Donington.
An additional, fourth Bennetts BSB race at the Leicestershire circuit - plus two in the Pirelli National Superstock series - made it the team’s busiest race weekend of the season.
Saturday’s racing began in disappointing fashion with Charlie Nesbitt sliding out of the Bennetts BSB opener and teammate John McPhee then unavoidably falling after a technical issue with his bike, which left the Scot in considerable discomfort and led the race to be red-flagged.
But Sunday saw a big improvement as Nesbitt bounced back to come home 9th, 10th and 12th in the three races, while McPhee rode through the pain barrier to secure 14th and 17th place finishes.
Meanwhile Dan Brooks produced another fine performance on his MasterMac Honda in the Pirelli National Superstock championship to finish 8th in Sunday’s race, along with 14th on Saturday.
Steve Hicken, team manager, commented:
“It was a hectic weekend for the riders and crew, and a great effort by everyone to come back strongly after a difficult start on Saturday.
“John had some really bad luck but kept pushing on and was rewarded with some more championship points, while Charlie was again consistent and competitive in all three races on Sunday.
“Dan did a really good job on the Superstock bike and can be pleased with how well he’s doing in what is a huge and talented field.”
Next up for the team is a trip overseas, as Bennetts BSB heads to Assen in the Netherlands for the first time since 2019. The first of the ‘showdown’ rounds - the final three meetings of the season - takes place there from 19-21 September.
