John McPhee caught the eye in round two of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship over the weekend as he racked up three points finishes.

The Scot is making his superbike debut this season and his performances at Donington showed he is quickly getting to grips with his new MasterMac Honda.

Three strong rides saw him pick up 9th, 10th and 12th place finishes on a glorious weekend at the East Midlands circuit.

McPhee, who has spent much of his career racing internationally as a mainstay of the Moto3 World Championship, said afterwards:

“It’s a steep learning curve adapting to the bike and to Bennetts BSB but I’m growing in confidence with every ride and it’s great to have made what feels like a big step forward at Donington.
“The championship is every bit as competitive as I expected it to be and I’m really enjoying it. I think there’s good reason to believe we can build on this as the season goes on.”

McPhee’s teammate Charlie Nesbitt had a more challenging weekend, beginning with a fall in race one. That effectively relegated him to the back of the grid for race two, in which he unavoidably crashed out when a riderless bike slid into his path.

Nesbitt saved his best for last though, with a great recovery ride to finish 13th in the third race after starting 25th on the grid.

Reflecting on the weekend’s racing, MasterMac Honda team manager Steve Hicken said:

“We’re really pleased with how quickly John is getting up to speed. He’s fitted into the team really well and is beginning to make an impact in the championship already.
“It was a tough weekend for Charlie, who had some really bad luck in race two. But his ride in the third race was outstanding under the circumstances and we’ve got every confidence in him to bounce back in the next round.”

Dan Brooks represented MasterMac Honda in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship and came home 11th in the category’s single race of the weekend, securing 7th place in the current championship standings.

Bennetts BSB returns in a month’s time with a visit to Snetterton circuit in Norfolk from 20-22 June.
