Charlie Nesbitt delivered a stunning qualifying performance to secure MasterMac Honda’s first pole position of the season in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

The 24-year-old mastered wet conditions at Oulton Park to put himself at the front of the grid in impressive style, in what proved to be the highlight of the weekend for the team.

It was the constantly changing conditions - both high winds and rain - that cost Nesbitt more success in the opening race, as the weather worked in favour of tyre choices made by those further back on the grid and he eventually came home tenth.

He did however end the weekend with another hat-trick of top ten finishes in a hotly contested series of three races, including a great ride to take him to seventh in the second.

Meanwhile his teammate John McPhee finished just outside the points and MasterMac Honda’s Dan Brooks took 15th in the single Pirelli National Superstock race.

Reflecting on the weekend, team manager Steve Hicken said:

“The weather made for a really challenging meeting and it’s a great credit to Charlie that he made pole position when so many riders around him were struggling to come to terms with the conditions.
“He deserved better from the races but can hold his head high for the way he battled on, while John and Dan both put in some solid performances.
“A big thanks to the whole crew, sponsors and supporters for keeping us competitive all weekend. We’ll be hoping for much better conditions and aiming for a strong finish to the season at Brands Hatch.”

The Bennetts BSB season draws to a close with what promises to be an exciting weekend of racing at Brands Hatch in Kent from 17-19 October.
